House Of The Dragon season two introduces a bunch of new characters into the Targaryen civil war.
Based on the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, the HBO series serves as a prequel to Game Of Thrones and depicts the fall of House Targaryen.
After Miguel Sapochnik departed co-showrunning duties after the first season, the second batch of episodes is solely led by Ryan Condal. Cast members include Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Olivia Cooke.
Prior to the season two premiere, House Of The Dragon was renewed for a third season in June 2024.
Who is Alyn in House Of The Dragon season 2?
Alyn is introduced in the show as a sailor who fought in Lord Corlys Velayron’s (Steve Toussaint) fleet during the Stepstones war, depicted in season one. He is also the brother of Addam of Hull, who is played by Clinton Liberty.
In the first episode of season two, Corlys seeks out Alyn to thank him for saving his life during the war. It’s only a brief scene, but Alyn looks set to play a significant role moving forward.

Alyn is played by Abubakar Salim, who is known for roles in Jamestown and Raised By Wolves. He’s also known in the video game world for voicing Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins and for directing his own game, Tales Of Kenzera: Zau.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about his role in House Of The Dragon, Salim said: “Season two is more of an introduction to a lot of us. I’ve also read Fire & Blood and I know this trajectory that my character goes through. So it’s really exciting to know the end goal and you have fun with the journey of how you get to where you want to get to.”
Who is Alyn in Fire & Blood?
In George R.R. Martin’s book, Alyn is the son of Marilda of Hull who grew up in the shipyards of Driftmark. Marilda claims both Alyn and his brother Addam were fathered by Laenor Velaryon, but this is disputed due to his sexuality.
Along with Addam, Alyn is a dragonseed, a term used for bastards of Valyrian descent, which means they are believed to be best suited to become dragonriders. While Addam eventually claims Laenor Valaryon’s dragon, Seasmoke, Alyn tries and fails to claim the dragon, Sheepstealer, and is scarred by the burns. Alyn goes onto become the heir to Driftmark and helps command House Valaryon’s fleet with Corlys.
It’s unclear if House Of The Dragon will follow this same trajectory as the show has already made several changes to certain characters, including making Laenor significantly younger, and having Alyn fight in the war of the Stepstones, which he didn’t do in the book.
