CMAT has performed a rendition of Kate Bush‘s ‘Wuthering Heights’ while performing at one of her shows in London.
The Irish singer – real name Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson – took over London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town last month while on her California Or Bust tour. Midway through her set, she took the time to cover Bush’s 1978 debut single.
CMAT shared a snippet of the live performance on her official X/Twitter account. “‘Wuthering Heights’ from kentish town forum !! i’ve wanted to do this since i was about 14 years old. watch on youtube below. thank u @katebush for paving the way for artists to cuntrify music in 2024,” read the caption of her post.

Released on January 20 1978, ‘Wuthering Heights’ served as the lead single from Bush’s debut album ‘The Kick Inside’. The track earned the Number One spot on the UK Singles Chart where it remained for four weeks. The milestone made Bush the first female artist to earn a Number One single with an entirely self-penned song.
CMAT’s latest release was 2023’s ‘Crazymad, For Me’. In a four-star review of the album, NME shared: “CMAT will have you in stitches one second and emotionally suckerpunched the next. It’s brilliant. Inventive, intoxicating, deliciously camp – she continues to transcend all expectations and remains absolutely unmatched.”

Last month, the singer hinted that new music – namely the follow-up to ‘Crazymad, For Me’ – was on the way, and may be released sooner than fans expect.
Speaking to NME on the red carpet of the Ivor Novellos in London, Thompson shared: “I’d like to say that I’m working on it slowly, but knowing me it’ll probably be out in about two weeks times because I love to release an album a year – much to the chagrin of my manager and my label and my friends and my family. I am working on new music, it’s in the pot.”
Asked about the direction of her new material, she replied: “Country! I think I’ve started doubling down on a couple of things that are very specific to me. Now I’m two albums in, instead of trying to make the best and most amazing music in the world, I’m trying to just actually really closely define what it is that only I specifically can do.
“I’m excited about it! I’m excited to make what’s probably the weirdest music of my life so far! I hope the label likes it!”
In other news, Declan McKenna recently opened up about working with CMAT, sharing that “She’s got the gift of the gab, which is part of her songwriting capabilities, always coming up with little quips. Lots of fun times.”
