South Korean actress Seo Ye-ji is primed to return to the entertainment industry two years after her gaslighting controversy.
Today (June 25), Sublime Artist Agency announced in a statement that Seo Ye-ji has signed an “exclusive contract” with the entertainment company. It comes six months after her contract with Gold Medalist expired in November 2023, and two years after her last project, the 2022 K-drama Eve.
Seo’s break from the entertainment industry came after a controversy where the actress had been accused of gaslighting her ex-boyfriend, actor Kim Jung-hyun. In April 2021, she received backlash for her alleged controlling and manipulative behaviour during the filming of Kim’s 2018 K-drama Time.
In February 2022, the actress apologised for being “so late” with her apology and spoke about how she regretted making people “uncomfortable” in the past due to her “immature attitude and shortcomings”. However, she did not directly address the April 2021 controversy nor actor Kim Jung-hyun.
“We plan to fully support and tirelessly work to create new synergies with Seo, who is passionate about acting and possesses a multifaceted charm,” added Sublime Artist Agency about Seo’s new contract, per Korea JoongAng Daily.
Prior to her break from the industry, Seo had starred in a number of popular and high-profile K-dramas, including It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and Lawless Lawyer. In 2021, she also appeared in the South Korean film Recalled.
In other K-drama news, Lovely Runner star Byeon Woo-seok has opened up about his newfound popularity following the show’s explosive success. “Everything itself, my day-to-day is actually a big surprise, a big amazement,” he said.
