Saweetie speaks out after stampede during her Vegandale festival 2024 set

The rapper believed the narrative online surrounding the incident was a part of the "negative propaganda" against her

Saweetie has taken to social media to wish fans well after a stampede occurred during her set at this year’s Vegandale Festival in Chicago.

Over the weekend, the Bay Area rapper performed at the food and music event alongside 2 Chainz, NLE Choppa, Jadakiss, Fabolous, and more. However, while she was on stage, Saweetie saw a fight and called those involved out, saying: “I hope y’all ain’t doing what I think y’all doing.”

Once the rapper said that, hundreds of people in the crowd started to scramble and get as far away from the fight as possible. She later took to X/Twitter to share that she hoped “everyone got home safe” because “the crowd looked crazy”.

Some attendees have blamed Saweetie for the incident. One X/Twitter user wrote: “Don’t bring your ass back to Chicago, you’ve done enough. It was babies out there getting trampled on for nothing then you gone come back talking about ‘I’ma tell y’all what my type is’.”

Saweetie directly replied to the tweet. “The crowd did look crazy which is why I hope everyone got home safe,” the ‘My Type’ hitmaker said. “I could’ve went home after the fight broke out but I stayed, waited, and after 2 Chainz performed I went back on stage to finish my set because I care. You clearly don’t like me so why you stay for the rest of my set when the festival was clearly over?”

Another user said that the situation was “all Saweetie’s fault” and wondered why she said what she did on stage because “MFs assumed [she was talking about a] shooting and it was a stampede”.

Saweetie also believed the way the incident was covered online was a part of the “negative propaganda” against her.

Saweetie is still yet to release her long-awaited debut album, ‘Pretty Bitch Music’. She announced the record over four years ago and released the singles ‘Richivities’ and ‘Immortal Freestyle’ earlier this year – which are expected to feature on the album.

In her Allure cover story, Saweetie also gave a reason as to why the record is delayed.

“I just feel like nobody was caring about my music,” she said. “To me, music is sacred. It’s coming from your spirit. You can’t just go finish an album in a week. That’s why it’s taking me so long. That’s why I haven’t dropped an album yet.”

Back in January, the Icy Girl featured on Wonyoung from K-Pop band IVE‘s first-ever English-speaking song, ‘All Night’. On the song, the two sing and rap over a rework of Icona Pop‘s hit 2013 single of the same title.

Wonyoung told Teen Vogue that she “freaked out” when she found out she was working with Saweetie. She added: “The first time I heard that we were going to do a collaboration with her, my heart was beating so fast.”
