BLACKPINK’s Lisa is a ‘Rockstar’ in her new single and music video

It's been three years since the K-pop star made her solo debut with 'Lalisa'

BLACKPINK rapper Lisa has dropped the music video for her new solo single, ‘Rockstar’.

BLACKPINK’s Lisa unveiled her bombastic new single ‘Rockstar’ today (June 28). The song is the K-pop star’s first solo release through RCA Records and LLOUD, the latter of which is a management company she founded in February.

In the dance-driven music video for ‘Rockstar’, the rapper takes to the streets of Bangkok, Thailand. “Make your favourite singer wanna rap, baby, la, la / ‘Lisa, can you teach me Japanese?’ I said, ‘Hai, hai,’ / That’s my life, life, baby, I’m a rockstar,” she boasts on the chorus.

Lisa co-wrote the new song alongside Ryan Tedder, as well as Brittany Amaradio, James Essien, Lucy Healey and Sam Homaee. ‘Rockstar’ also notably samples Tame Impala’s ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’.

The BLACKPINK star made her solo debut in September 2021 with her two-track single album ‘LALISA’, which included the title track of the same name and ‘Money’. Her last music release was a feature on Big Bang singer Taeyang’s ‘Shoong!’ in April 2023.

In related news, BLACKPINK’s Rosé has officially signed to The Black Label, headed by the K-pop group’s longtime producer Teddy Park. The K-pop agency confirmed the news in a statement earlier this week, saying that the deal was “based on deep trust” between Park and Rosé.

Rosé is also the only member of BLACKPINK to not establish her own label since the girl group decided not to renew their individual contracts with longtime agency YG Entertainment. However, the quartet did re-sign for an “exclusive contract for group activities” with the agency.

In February 2024, Jisoo and Lisa launched their own solo companies Blissoo and LLOUD, respectively. Meanwhile, Jennie established Odd Atelier (OA) in December 2023, and has since released the single ‘Slow Motion’ with Brockhampton’s Matt Champion.
